My good pal and like minded foodie Vicki recently invited a small swarm of bloggers to Dr. Laffa, aka Yoram as we now know him. And to know him is truly to love him, as he supplied us with a smorgasbord of goodies off his menu featuring the best in middle eastern eats and treats.
Yoram is dedicated to his craft, going so far as to have bi-weekly shipments of his favourite Israeli spices shipped in as the spices in Toronto he found were just not up to the job. He also hand crafted the oven he makes his own laffa (like a thinner sexier pita) in as he was just unable to find an oven that would meet his exact requirements. Yoram is a little particular, and if there’s one good quality in any chef it’s attention to detail and he truly exemplifies this with his tasty delicacies and down home cooking.
The Dr Laffa name may be familiar to you, although Yoram’s location is the humbler little sister, dropping the ‘famous’ and departing from his past partnership, Yoram opened this precise location only 4 months ago, up until that point, he was two doors down on Bathurst south of Lawrence. He’s still in the same plaza (while (ex) older sister is still on Magnetic Drive) but his new digs allow him the privilege of having a few tables and chairs and more room to grow. And growth is his motto for 2015, he plans to roll out another location this year- in either Thornhill or downtown Toronto.
The crowded table soon became filled with styrofoam as Yoram courted what seemed like his entire menu over to us. Highlights for me were definitely the Dr Laffa Hummus (above) with it’s meaty centre and the crispy falafels (below).
Many thanks to Yoram and his team for hosting us annoying bloggers! We ruffled a few feathers (and stole most of his tables) so I really appreciate his patience (and free meal), although I’m pretty sure my family didn’t- until I brushed all the garlic away (mouthwash, floss, brush, rinse, repeat x 2) no one would come within 3 feet of me!
Check out Dr Laffa’s at 3027 Bathurst near Lawrence for some awesome middle eastern eats- no prescription required.
