I had the opportunity to go back to The Ivy at Verity, a sumptuous boutique hotel in the heart of Toronto. A friend decided to tag along, so we ended up having half the hotel (there’s only four rooms) all to ourselves! We kicked things off at the women’s only spa, named one of the best in Toronto, Sweetgrass. After our amazing spa treatments we gussied up for our dates (celebrating birthdays with our hubby’s) at the amazing George restaurant for a full ten course tasting menu with wine flights. This is definitely one of those times I’m happy I can wear a dress, elastic waistband for the win!
After our delectable dinner (loved how George mixes it up and gives couples different plates- twice as nice!) we ambled back up to our respective rooms. Each room has it’s own clear design approach, I absolutely loved peeking in and seeing how different our rooms were. My friend had stayed there before as well, so she requested her fave room, number one.
The rooms are nothing short of magnificent. Large in scale, these rooms dwarf other downtown rooms, in not only size, but design as well. I find most hotels have two areas. Sleep and desk. The Ivy has a sitting area, a lovely armchair nook for reading, the bed for sprawling out, and then of course, the lovely terrace balconies perfect for enjoying a morning coffee (breakfast is also included) or an after dinner nightcap.
My friend’s room is like a quintessential snapshot of a girls room, if that girl happened to live in Paris…the walls are striped with soft pink wallpaper, the curtains are a heavy velvet-like textile that promises to block out the sun and afford you a good nights rest. Frilly influences like the sparkly lights and velvet chairs add drama as well as comfort.
My room (number three) is similar in scale and size, but with a modern teal coloured wallpaper with dramatic black ivy like motif which carries through with the black pendant lighting. The crisp white linens pair so well with the upholstered headboard making it a striking feature in the colourful room.
Both rooms come with deep soaker tubs and include a buffet of aromatic bath salts. Clearly the hotel is on the ball, anticipating every last detail. Love!
The rest of the hotel is a maze of lounges, private members room for the womens club Verity. I was blown away by all the small details- fresh cut flowers are a feature of almost every single surface. Netflix enabled Samsung Tablets in each room act as your remote as well as your portable entertainment unit. There’s a full shared honour bar awaiting you outside your room. Breakfast is delivered and waiting outside your room in the morning. Even a little healthy snack is left for you at turn down.
If you’re looking for a proper good nights sleep in the city, this is your best bet. Entering in off Queen street you leave the city behind you, leaving the next day refreshed and relaxed, or if you’re smart, you book for two nights!
