Coming fresh off a lower back injury that sidelined me for a full two weeks it became a clear reality that a) I’m getting older, and b) I need to stretch more. After back to back visits to my Chiropractor and massage therapist, (and frozen bag of peas/heating pad) I decided to get my ass in gear and start some new routines to allow me to get back to training for my upcoming Nike Women’s 15K and ultimately, the Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon in July.
My stretching routine thus far has been bending down to tie my shoes and tossing in the old childs pose for good measure if things got really tight. Obviously, I need to rethink my game. Nike Studio Wraps are just the gear to get me there. I renewed my hot yoga pass and started downward-doggin’ in these cuties which not only let me hygienically glide across the room but also kept me from slipping around on my mat like a Slip n’ Slide.
While hot yoga has definitely helped with my flexibility, going once or twice a week ain’t gonna cut it. In the meantime, I’ve been working with the NTC ap honing my stretching skills at home. Two of my fave ‘workouts’ are Shawn Johnson’s Full Stretch Guide and Leah Kym’s Dyanmic Yoga. Doing these twice a week has given me added strength, flexibility and balance. BOOM.
