Quebec en Hiver

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Yeah, sure Santa is on his way, but so is SNOW, my favourite four letter word! My family and I (along with two other families) have been seeking the powdery white stuff, opting to celebrate and bond over skiing for the past two years. Renting a chalet just outside Mont Tremblant in the beautiful Lac-Supérieur region of Quebec gives us great access to skiing, but also some quality time away from hectic city living.

Chalets come fully equipped, with multiple bedrooms and levels affording everyone their own private space, but also ample social spaces, including of course, a hot tub too. Cozy wood burning fireplaces melt city stress away, and add a whiff of nostalgia to a girl like this, who grew up with a wood burner, but am now stuck with a mediocre gas fireplace. Damn you city by-laws!

Chalets come well equipped, blankets, towels, even some toiletries for the bathrooms too. The kitchen is stocked with all the gadgets too, we love cooking up big apres ski dinners here- fondue, pierogis, chili, whatever is hot, nourishing and easy to serve a crowd! We rent with two other families which can make feeding 12 people a challenge, but in well equipped chalets like this it’s a snap.

There’s something so peaceful about this area. The snow is deep, acting as a natural sound buffer. Animal tracks are always dotting the property. Stars are breathtaking, another beautiful surprise to this city dweller. This is truly a place that you can kick back, reconnect and enjoy each other, and the rugged beauty of the great outdoors.

Skiing is the other main draw. Close proximity to many great hills, Lac-Supérieur is only a short drive to the big village of Mont Tremblant, and nearby Mont Blanc is also an easy venture.

My kids love the vacation- it’s an easy drive, no debilitating airport lines, they love flexing their French language in ski school and the restaurants, and to boot, they’re now avid skiers too. There really is no better way to spend the holiday season then with SNOW!
