The ACC is known for their celebrated sports teams- The Maple Leafs, Raptors, Toronto Rock, as well as all the hottest concerts and events are hosted at this beast of a building. But there’s more good things happening here than just Lowry coming back, the ACC recently made the switch and has now designated all five of their restaurants as certified Ocean Wise, a sustainable fishing organization based out of the Vancouver Aquarium who’s mission is to promote and educate about safest fish to eat, and ways to prevent over fishing in our oceans. This giant leap towards this environmental pact is a slam dunk for the ACC, and for it’s thousands of ravenous fans who regularly pack this house.
To celebrate this huge occasion, the ACC welcomed media to check out their amazing new offerings, with stops at e11even, Real Sports Bar & Grill, private Platinum Club, The Hot Stove Lounge and a final stop at the Air Canada Club to catch the Raptors win.
Kicking off at e11even lounge for Oysters, Executive Chef Evan Tandy dazzled with trays of east and west coast oysters with all the accroutement. Culinary Director Chris Zielinski spoke to the crowd on the importance of serving sustainable products, before heading over to Real Sports Bar & Grill for the next course, Humboldt Calamari Fries with garlicky tzatziki.
Calamari at Realsports
Weaving through the crowds, we looped back into the Air Canada Centre, in the exclusive Platinum Club
. Chef de Cuisine Jason Bailey greeted us in the posh restaurant, where he explained in detail the menu and approach to his fine dining establishment. Every last single menu item is made in house, including the bread. Surprising to say the least considering an empire this big can keep up with numbers this large! He made us a scrumptious duo of Selva Shrimp Ravioli and Seared Itsumo Tuna, shining a light on the delicious side of eating responsibly, with selva shrimp adding an extra dose of activism as the naturally raised shrimp help employ small armies in mangrove forests.
The Hot Stove Loung
The Hot Stove Club
e was another highlight, with Chef de Cuisine Kellen Crumb preparing two stunning plates paired together, first an Ocean Wise Hot Stove Clam Chowder with a Kolapore Springs Trout Amandine, showcasing the Ocean Wise program for sure- but also the range of upscale eats this arena offers.
Northern Divine Sturgeon
Our last stop at the Air Canada Club
was not only the most exciting (loudest) but offered a sweet finish too. Chef Taylor McMeekin coached us how he created the beautiful Northern Divine Sturgeon with caviar and mini blinis that were so good we stole some off someone’s plate when they were distracted by the game. #SorryNotSorry
! And as the Raptors pulled ahead and took the lead, Chef Taylor ran defense on our diets, with a full court press of desserts, well played Chef!
Many thanks to Ocean Wise, MLSE and The ACC for having us out! If you’d like to learn more about what fish you should be eating, learn more here.
