While a trip to Spain was high on my agenda this summer, things have a way of getting away from you. Budgets and time restrictions aside, Spanish inspirations can take on many forms, and luckily for us sweating in the 6ix, (and now Ottawa too!) the Estrella Damm Tapas Journey is back, taking over Ontario’s top restaurants with tempting plates, paired with an Estrella Damm lager for, all for $20.

Chef Albert Adrià ‘s offerings

Us media and food junkies got a preview of that inspiration last month, from none other than the superstar Michelin rated Chef Albert Adrià. For those living under a rock, Albert is the chef and owner of elBarri group of restaurants with his brother Ferran and the Iglesias brothers. On a stopover in Toronto, speaking through a translator, Chef Albert spoke to the components that go into making Michelin starred plates, the precision and technique behind cooking times, so exact that it comes down to the second.

Sourcing the freshest ingredients and never shopping out of season are core ethics of his cooking approach, and that of many of the Toronto based chefs that are continuing his journey. Chefs like Claudio Aprile at Copetin, Craig Wong at Jackpot Chicken and Rice and Nick Liu at DaiLo are all putting their spin on their respective plates, and with a price point of $20, the city is yours to explore, no passport required.
