The ELLICSR kitchen was home to a bevy of foodies last night, all to celebrate the beautiful space that’s dedicated to an amazing cause. To be perfectly honest, I usually attend these things to score some free food and swag, meet like minded food focused peeps and generally just unplug a bit and have a good time. Tonight was no different, but it was positively glorious connecting all these wonderful things with something that I’m resoutley passionate about, cancer treatment (and really, prevention and a cure).
We all have our personal stories with cancer, and I’m not going to put my pity party out here on full display, but know that it’s very near and dear to my heart. Each year I captain my own Terry Fox team (sponsor us!) and am always looking for ways to get involved with people who share my mission.
Last night brought together the team at ELLICSR, Christy Brissette, the team’s dietitian, with wellness chef Geremy Capone for a cooking demo that put the team’s full potential on display. I was inspired to learn about all the special care and details that go into cultivating a cooking class, which ELLICSR puts on free of charge, the first three Thursdays of the month. The last Thursday is dedicated to studio time, recording episodes for those who are unable to make it (or those who want to re-watch what they’ve already learned in class) for their popular YouTube channel.
Food wise, I was really stoked to see that the ingredients were seasonal, fresh and nutritious. And tasty. No weirdo spirulina soy shakes here. Real food, that nourishes cancer patients, and lucky normies such as myself.
Millet kinda rocks, mmmkay?
