Waterkeeper GalaI never went to prom. I know, how cliché. But when the opportunity came to get gussied up and gala ready I jumped at the chance to jam on my Jimmy Choos, all in support of a very good cause. The Waterkeeper Gala is near and dear to my heart, and anyone with a pulse and a pair of eyes can see that this charity needs support, and the time is now. With Canada boasting the most freshwater in the world, we need to protect our water, and keep it clean for generations to come.
The evening marries special guest performances with a art-centric focus, a bumper crop of artists and photographers donate to the project with auctioneer Stephen Ranger performing hosting duties for the evening. The art all relates to the subject matter, with water imagery flowing from one piece to the next.
More than just water was flowing at CBC headquarters that evening, with Mill Street Brewery coughing up the suds to wash down the good eats that Citizen Catering was cooking up. As an official media partner, or blogger more accurately, I was rewarded with behind the scenes views of the kitchen crew in action. While I didn’t get to actually try any of the food, Chef Chris Brown’s team was serving up some very sexy plates, from passed canapes to alternating salads, the team was careful with plating and service seemed effortless, of course, behind the scenes you hear the particulars ‘make sure this table gets the gluten-free vegan plate’ or notably, ‘serve the Governor General’s table first!’. Cooking for 500 can’t be easy, but with military precision and planning Citizen Catering totally pulled it off!
Bonus! Here’s a pic of me on my way in! Thanks Waterkeeper Gala for allowing me to capture behind the scenes of your fabulous event.
